Build Your FREE In-house Winery Marketing Team with these Free Tools!

Are you the winery marketer wearing a thousand hats?

Are you the chief marketing officer, head of fulfillment, AND the tasting room lead?

When you go to winery conferences and hear other people talking about their marketing teams, do you get green with envy?

Good news, many-hat wearer:

You don’t need to have an in-house marketing team for your email campaigns to look professional. Today, we are going to share our favorite free tools that will give you the power of an in-house marketing team behind your one-man or one-woman show.

Welcome to the Email Mavens blog, the place for winery owners and marketing professionals who want to sell more wine online by sending better email campaigns.

Erica Walter, our founder and CEO, and former wearer of many hats herself, knows what it’s like to be doing EVERYTHING yourself. And if you’re like she used to be, we know you’re short on time. So, we’ll cut right to the chase and start sharing our favorite free resources with you…

1. Your Free Graphic Designer

Erica’s favorite of favorites, the one that saved her business, is Canva. When Erica first got started, she realized she needed to create compelling graphics for email marketing campaigns without in-house graphic design. She had a full-blown panic attack… and then found Canva.

Canva is free online graphic design software that can help you create amazing-looking hero images, subtext over images, and all kinds of other graphics. It can also help with social media content and logo design. Canva is magic, and you need to get some of that for yourself if you haven’t already. Go to canva.com and set up your free account today.

If you’re feeling frisky and want to spend like 10 bucks a month, you can set up a brand kit that will apply your logo, colors, and fonts to any design you create on Canva, saving you tons of time. Time is money, so the 10 bucks might not be a big deal.

Use Canva for hero images to make it look like you have in-house graphic design, and it’s totally free.

Now you have replaced an in-house graphic designer with Canva for free!

2. Your Free Data Analyst

The next role you need to fill on your imaginary in-house email marketing team is an analyst. You need someone who can look at your data and tell you what you should do with it. This is why you need a free Google Analytics account.

You can use Google Analytics to set up all kinds of dashboards that will help you understand how the traffic from your email campaigns interacts with your website content.

  • Where do they go after they hit the landing page?
  • How long do they spend on your website?
  • What do they ultimately end up buying?

Google Analytics is free and can replace your in-house data analyst.

3. Your Free Email Service Provider

Now, you’ve staffed your free in-house marketing team with a graphic designer and a data analyst. But you’re missing something to create and send your email campaigns.

If you’re just getting started and don’t have an email platform, MailChimp and Klaviyo offer free plans. These platforms allow you to dip your toes into email marketing, start seeing results, and prove that email marketing is a valuable revenue opportunity for your winery.

4. Your Unpaid Intern

Also consider using the amazing free resource ChatGPT.

ChatGPT shouldn’t replace your in-house copywriter, but it can help you create outlines for emails, draft 30 email subject lines, or create a plan for your email marketing.

While ChatGPT might not provide perfect content, it can be a great starting point. Set up a free account if you don’t have one, and ask ChatGPT for 30 subject lines for your spring release email or 12 different email campaign ideas to sell wine over the next year. It might just become your unpaid marketing content intern.

5. Free Weekly Email Party

The fifth and most important totally free email marketing resource is the Email Maven Email Party.

Every Friday, we drop knowledge bombs, step-by-step tutorials, and action-packed content to help you sell more wine online by sending better email campaigns. The email party helps you not just consume this great content, but actually do it.
