7 Lessons from 7 Years in Business (And Why I’d Still Drink to Every One)

In 2018, I launched this business with a baby in my belly and too many idea babies in my brain. Today, we help wineries across the country sell more wine through smarter email marketing—and I’m more fired up than ever.

So to celebrate seven years of Email Mavens, I’m sharing seven hard-earned business lessons. These aren’t just tips—they’re tiny toasts to every founder, freelancer, and fearless wine marketer trying to build something meaningful.

1. Do One Thing Really Well for One Person

I started by doing everything—social media, copywriting, branding, customer surveys. Even (I shudder) cold email to a purchased list.

But clarity breeds momentum. Today, we do one thing: email marketing. For one group: wineries.

✏️ Lesson: Get laser-focused. Be a Meaningful Specific, not a wandering generality.

2. H2H > B2B or B2C

Human-to-human marketing has been my ethos from the beginning. Wine is about people. Connection always outperforms perfection.

🧡 Lesson: People don’t crave perfection—they crave connection.

3. There’s No Such Thing as Competition

I celebrate every freelancer, agency, and email nerd entering this space. The more smart marketers serving wineries, the better.

🌱 Lesson: Think collaboration, not comparison.

4. I’m a Teacher at Heart

5. Do Less, Better

6. It’s My Job to Create Jobs

This business isn’t just about me. It’s about building a legacy—and that means hiring incredible women, referring other pros, and helping wineries grow, too.

💼 Lesson: When you’re building something bigger than you, you’re doing it right.

7. Decide Fast. Act Faster.

Procrastination steals results. Momentum comes when you trust your gut, make the call, and move.

Lesson: Progress over perfection. Every time.
